Desert Angel…

Jaci, the Mini American Eskimo dog, was lost in the middle of the California desert. She ventured onto our campsite and was very scared. Turns out she was starving and very thirsty as well. She had a registration tag on her collar but no name or phone number. I happened to have a long leash in our RV and fastened it to her collar to avoid having her run off again. It was a holiday weekend and all the animal shelters were closed so I wasn’t able to call in the registration number and locate a phone number. After posting “Found Dog” notices on about 20 websites and posting paper signs at the nearby store, we just sat there and waited, praying that her owner would find us. Jaci slept for hours on my lap and that evening when the sun set and nobody had come looking for her, we took her into the RV and she slept inside with us. I instantly fell in love with her – what a perfect little sweetie. The next day we drove 2 1/2 hours back home and she sat in my lap the entire time. As soon as the animal shelter opened up, I called and thanks to her registration number being linked to her microchip number, I was able to locate her owner. Turns out she had gotten spooked by fire crackers and had survived two nights in the cold, coyote-ridden desert. The fact that she survived and found our campsite miles away from anything is a true miracle! As happy as I was that Jaci and her owner were going to be reunited, a little part of me was sad to see her go. So in the 2 hours it took for her owner to drive to our house to pick her up, I decided to do a photo session of her so that I could remember her always. And remember her always I will… Pin it Pin it Pin it Pin it
